Description* :
This is not an auction for a carburetor, but a kit to upgrade the ones you already have. This is a pair of secondary carburetor upgrade kits that were offered to corvair dealerships via a technical bulletin in mid to late 1968, and later on factory carburetors to help alleviate customer complaints about secondary carburetor operation, or the lack of. A new linkage lockout system was added to all 140 hp engines starting in 1966 to eliminate the problems caused when drivers would try ton use their secondary carbs before the engine warmed up enough to handle the extra fuel. This was apparently the bulk of 140 hp engine owner complaints. The lockout system prevented the operation of the secondary carburetors until a locking lever was tripped by the opened choke shaft on the primary carbs. The system required a complete redesign of the accelerator linkage and the addition of springs on the rods that worked the secondary carbs. The springs were needed to keep persistent drivers from bending the rods by trying to overcome the locks. Another example of overkill? Maybe not, because those with a strong leg were eventually able to cause the small linkage pieces on the carbs to bend, requiring a trip back to the repair shop. Dealers asked for, and got, a better fix via a much heavier system. While the system was only available on some of the last production models, it was possible to order it from the parts department for retrofit. The bowl covers are the same ones used on the primary carburetor. This auction is for a complete set of those special order parts, including replacement carb tops/bowl covers for owners who want the best possible linkage system. It will work on all secondary carbs in 1966, 1967, 1968, and 1969. I have had all the parts re-plated back to original condition in yellow zinc coating. It is necessary to remove the carburetors to install the linkage and tops so i am throwing in some new base bowl cover gaskets and a pair of base gaskets. You might consider this... Read More
